Recompletion is to start next week at the 12-4 well in Belmont Lake field, in the Mississippi River flood plain in Wilkinson County, Miss., said Lexaria Corp., Kelowna, BC.

If successful, Lexaria said, the recompletion is designed to replicate the success of May 2012 when two older wells were similarly recompleted, resulting in the Frio field’s highest recorded oil production rates.

Griffin & Griffin Exploration LLC, Jackson, Miss., operates the field, and Lexaria owns a 50% working interest in the 12-4 well (OGJ Online, Mar. 24, 2011).

The 12-4 recompletion in many ways is designed to emulate a new well. It includes new perforations, new gravel-pack and sand screens, gas lift valves, and a new packer and tubing.

When originally completed and placed on production in October 2010, the 12-4 well made 200 b/d of oil for the first 10 days of production. The rate then declined more quickly than expected, possibly due to the migration of fine sands into the gravel pack. The recompletion is intended to mitigate that problem.

The 12-4 well could be returned to production by the end of October, Lexaria said.
