Reliance Industries Ltd. and BP PLC have gauged a deepwater gas-condensate discovery in the Cauvery basin offshore India’s east coast.

The well went to 5,731 m in 1,743 m 62 km offshore and is the pair’s second gas discovery on the CY-DWN-2001/2 (CYD5) block. The well was to explore Mesozoic-aged reservoirs. The discovery has been named D-56.

Preliminary evaluation of well data and fluid samples indicated presence of gas-condensate in the reservoir interval with a gross column of 143 m. Initial reservoir pressure is 8,000 psi.

The well drillstem tested at the rate of 35.2 MMscfd of gas and 413 b/d of condensate through a 52/64-in. choke. Rig and test equipment configuration limited the flow test rates, RIL said.
