Eni Congo SA said two discovery wells offshore Congo (Brazzaville) have proved a resource of 600 million bbl of oil and 700 bcf of gas in place and that delineation wells will probe considerable upside.

The Nene’ Marine-1 well went to 3,013 m in 24 m of water 17 km offshore on Marine XII block and encountered a large wet gas and light oil accumulation in the presaline clastic sequence of Lower Cretaceous age. Nene’ Marine 2 confirmed the accumulation and the continuity of the reservoir.

The two wells, 2 km apart, flowed 37° gravity oil at commercial rates. Eni will continue appraisal while starting development studies.

Eni Congo operates the block with 65% interest, New Age has 25%, and state Ste. Nationale des Petroles du Congo has 10%.
