Presalt carbonate reservoirs in the fourth exploratory well in the Iara area of Santos basin Block BM-S-11 have better characteristics than those found in the Iara discovery well, said Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras).

Presalt carbonate reservoirs in the fourth exploratory well in the Iara area of Santos basin Block BM-S-11 have better characteristics than those found in the Iara discovery well, said Petroleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras).

Petrobras drilled and formation tested the 3-RJS-706 (3-BRSA-1132-RJS) well but did not reveal test rates. It said the well “strengthened the potential of recoverable light oil from Iara” and confirmed the discovery of good quality oil of 28° gravity announced on Mar. 5.

The well, in 2,197 m of water 6 km west of the 1-RJS-656 Iara discovery well and 226 km south of Rio de Janeiro, topped the carbonate reservoirs at a depth of 5,260 m and encountered excellent porosity, permeability, and productivity, the company said.

Petrobras 65% in partnership with BG E&P Brasil 25% and Petrogal Brasil 10% will proceed with the activities outlined in the evaluation plan approved by Brazil’s National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP).

The group is drilling the 3-RJS-715D (3-BRSA-1181D-RJS) well in the center of the Iara evaluation plan area.
