The US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement reported that it continues to oversee efforts by Energy Resource Technology Gulf of Mexico LLC (ERT) to stop the flow of natural gas from a well at Ship Shoal Block 225 Platform B about 74 miles southwest of Port Fourchon, La.

BSEE first confirmed reports from ERT that there was a loss of well control earlier this week (OGJ Online, July 10, 2013).

ERT owns the platform, which lies in 146 ft of water.

Well kill operations have begun. BSEE reported it has reviewed and approved ERT’s prepared procedures for the source control operations.

BSEE said it will review ERT’s plan for plugging the well once it receives confirmation that the well has been successfully killed.
