Iraq: Oryx spuds Hawler license’s third wildcat

Oryx Petroleum Corp., Calgary, has spudded the AAS-1 exploratory well on the Hawler license in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

Oryx Petroleum Corp., Calgary, has spudded the AAS-1 exploratory well on the Hawler license in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The well targets the Ain Al Safra prospect estimated to be capable of containing a prospective resource of 225 million bbl unrisked, 44 million bbl risked, based on consulting engineers’ evaluation.

The well also targets deeper light oil potential in the Lower Jurassic and Triassic and heavy oil potential in the Cretaceous and is projected to reach 4,220 m total depth in this year’s fourth quarter.

AAS-1 is the third exploratory well on the license following the successful DD-2 well targeting the Demir Dagh prospect spudded in July 2012 and completed testing in March and the ZEG-1 well targeting the Zey Gawra prospect spudded in late April and expected to reach total depth late in this year’s third quarter.

Oryx Petroleum has a 65% participating and working interest in and is the operator of the Hawler license.
