The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) has order BP PLC to review its managements systems, and PSA gave BP until September for the review regarding a September 2012 leak at Ula oil field off Norway in the North Sea.
Nothing that no injuries resulted, PSA said that a number of people could have been killed in the incident that resulted in an estimated leak of 125 bbl of oil and 1,600 kg of gas. Ula platform was shut down for more than 2 months (OGJ Online, Sept. 18, 2012).
The order marked the second time in 2 years that BP was asked to review its North Sea operations.
PSA previously instructed BP to evaluate whether its safety response measures were adequate following a crane fire at Valhall field in 2011. No injuries resulted, but PSA said the incident involved what it called serious breaches of safety.
