BP PLC plans to sell its US wind energy business as part of a continuing effort to focus on oil and gas operations.

“This is not an exit from alternative energy,” BP said in an Apr. 4 e-mail to OGJ.

Assets up for sale include BP’s interests in 16 operating wind farms in nine states. The assets have a combined generating capacity of 2,600 Mw of renewable power. BP also has projects under way in various stages of development that involve another 2,000 Mw.

BP operates ethanol plants in Brazil and the UK. It also invests in biofuel technology research in the US and the UK. Additionally, BP invests in companies developing efficient energy technologies in both renewable and conventional energy.
