A tug and barge collided with a liquefied petroleum gas pipeline near Bayou Perot in Lafourche Parish, 30 miles south of New Orleans on Mar. 12, resulting in a fire involving the barge and the pipeline.
The barge was carrying 2,200 bbl of crude oil. The US Coast Guard dispatched a cutter, containment boom, skimmers, and other response vessels to the scene.
Chevron Corp. owns the pipeline, which has been shut in. The pipeline connects a Venice, La., gas plant to a pump station in Paradis, La.
Initial reports indicated the tugboat is the Shanon E. Settoon owned by Settoon Towing of Pierre Part, La.
USCG was investigating the cause of the incident and had released few details as of early Mar. 14.
