Total SA has been awarded and signed production-sharing contracts for Blocks 10 and 11 in Mediterranean deep water southwest of Cyprus and sees a different play on each block.

The blocks, which border Egyptian waters of the Nile Delta, total 2,572 sq km and 2,958 sq km, respectively in 1,000-2,500 m of water. Exploration will begin with 3D seismic surveys on Block 11 and 2D seismic on Block 10, Total said.

The PSCs, awarded as part of the second offshore exploration license round, lie directly west of the Noble Energy Inc. group’s Aphrodite gas discovery on Cyprus Block 12 and Leviathan gas find in Israeli waters, both in the Levant basin.

Last month Eni SPA and South Korea’s Kogas signed exploration and production sharing contracts with the Cyprus Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism covering Blocks 2, 3, and 9 in the Levant basin offshore Cyprus (OGJ Online, Jan. 24, 2013).
