PetroChina let a compression contract for its Third West-East Pipeline Project (WEPP 3) to Rolls-Royce. Rolls-Royce will supply an additional six RB211-driven natural gas turbine compressor units to the project, bringing the total number to 56 sold for use on China and Central Asia’s natural gas pipeline network.

PetroChina expects to complete the 30-billion cu m/year WEPP 3 in 2015, connecting to Line C of the Central Asia-China Gas Pipeline, also now under construction. WEPP 3 will mainly transport gas from the Central Asia pipeline, using incremental production in the Tarim basin and coal gas in Xinjiang to supplement these supplies (OGJ Online, Oct. 23, 2012). WEPP 3 will terminate in Fuzhou in Fujian province.

The contract is worth $75 million.
