Petroleo Brasileiro SA has discovered a deepwater postsalt oil reservoir in Marlim Sul field in the Campos basin offshore Brazil.

The 4-MLS-105D-RJS well, informally known as Mandarim, cut a 100-ft oil column with 13-16° gravity oil, similar to that in Marlim field, in Eocene-age arenaceous reservoirs at 2,965 ft. The well is in 1,874 m of water 126 km off Rio de Janeiro state. Petrobras plans to test reservoir productivity in 2013.

The well is next to the P-56 platform in Marlim Sul field where production and flow structures are already in place, facilitating an early start-up of the postsalt find, probably in 2014.
