A unit of TNK-BP plans to boost production of Verkhnechonskoye oil and condensate field in the northern Irkutsk region of Russia to 7 million tonnes/year by the end of 2012.

The field produced 5 million tonnes in 2011, according to TNK-BP, which owns 74% of the unit, OJSC Verkhnechonskneftegaz. Rosneft owns 25.94%.

Oil from the field flows through the East Siberia-Pacific Ocean crude oil pipeline.

TNK-BP didn’t disclose details of the planned production boost. The field produces cold, waxy oil from a reservoir complicated by salt in the rock matrix.
