Junex Inc., Quebec City, said its Galt-4 stepout well 20 km west of Gaspe in eastern Quebec encountered an oil column from 760 m to 1,757 m. Total depth is 2,000 m.
Junex ran 10 drillstem tests, six of which recovered varying quantities of oil and two of which recovered oil-cut drilling mud; no formation water was recovered. Junex also recovered 29 sidewall cores.
The Galt-4 wellsite is 2.5 km west of the Galt-1, 2, and 3 wells, which Junex said confirms an extension of the Galt structure, “our geological model and the presence of hydrothermal dolomite proximal to a significant strike-slip fault. Notably, the top of the Forillon formation is about 400 m higher than at the Galt-3 well.”
Galt-4 is temporarily suspended in view of drilling a future horizontal leg into the hydrothermal breccia encountered in the Devonian Forillon formation, Junex said.
The company noted that the potential of the Forillon formation on the Galt field property was previously evaluated for Junex by Netherland, Sewell & Associates Inc., consulting engineers, who issued a best estimate of initial oil in place of 260.2 million bbl. That figure includes contingent OIIP volumes of 26.3 million bbl and undiscovered prospective OOIP volumes of 233.9 million bbl.
