Phillips 66 reported power was restored to the 247,000 b/d Alliance refinery in Belle Chasse, La., and refinery workers prepared for a restart later this month following flooding to parts of the refinery during Hurricane Isaac, which made its first landfall on Aug. 28 in Plaquemines Parish, La.
The refinery sustained no significant equipment damage and should be running again in 6-9 days after getting its power back, Phillips 66 Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Greg Garland told the 2012 Barclays CEO Energy-Power Conference in New York on Sept. 5.
Later, Phillips 66 reported power was restored to Alliance during the afternoon of Sept. 5.
Five other refineries in Isaac’s path were in the process of being restarted while another four refineries operated with reduced runs, the US Department of Energy Office of Electricity Delivery & Energy Reliability said Sept. 5.
As of 11:30 a.m. CDT Sept. 6, the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement reported 593,090 b/d, or 42.98%, of Gulf of Mexico crude oil production shut in along with 957.8 MMcfd, or 21.28%, of natural gas production.
The DOE said 11 natural gas processing plants with capacities greater than 100 MMcfd remained shut down as of 1:30 p.m. EDT Sept. 5 as a result of Isaac. But eight of the plants were said to be capable of restarting pending resumption of pipeline flows.
