Apache Corp. has made a deepwater oil and gas-condensate discovery in the southeastern reaches of the Green Canyon planning area in the US Gulf of Mexico, said partner Ecopetrol SA.

The Parmer-1 well went to a total depth of 18,900 ft on Green Canyon Block 867, and pressure readings and fluid samples indicate 240 ft of gas-condensate net pay and 40 ft of net oil pay in Miocene sands, Ecopetrol said.

Apache, Ecopetrol, Stone Energy will reprocess 3D seismic and determine an appraisal and development plan in coming months, Ecopetrol said. The discovery lies off the southwest flank of giant Mad Dog oil and gas field.

Interests in blocks 867 and 823, in 4,200 ft of water 143 miles offshore Louisiana, are Apache 40% and Ecopetrol America Inc. and Stone 30% each.
