Baker Hughes: US rig count up by 6

US drilling activity increased by 6 units during the week ending Aug. 3.

US drilling activity increased by 6 units during the week ending Aug. 3. The total number of rotary rigs in the US reached 1,930 compared with 1,920 during the comparable week last year, Baker Hughes Inc. reported.

Land rigs were up 6 units to 1,861 working. Offshore rigs decreased by 2 to 49. Inland waters activity increased by 2 to 20 units.

The number of rigs drilling for natural gas decreased by 7 to 498. Those drilling for oil gained 13 to 1,429. There were 3 rigs unclassified. Horizontal drilling increased by 4 rigs to 1,155. Directional drilling was down by 12 to 228.

Oklahoma was up 6 units to 199. Texas’ rig count increased by 5 to 909. Alaska gained 2 rigs. New Mexico was up 3 units to 86. West Virginia gained 1 rig.

Colorado’s rig count decreased by 2 to 6. Arkansas, California, and Louisiana were down by 1 rig with respective counts of 16, 55, 118. Wyoming was unchanged at 51.

Canada’s count decreased by 35 to 303 rotary rigs working. The total was down from 131 units a year ago.
