Melrose Resources PLC and the Midia Resources SRL subsidiary of Sterling Resources Ltd., Calgary, will begin shooting 1,920 sq km of 3D seismic in the Black Sea off Romania in June, enough to cover the Muridava and Est Cobalcescu blocks, said Melrose.

Melrose agreed to farm out a 40% interest in Muridava to Midia in the quarter ended Mar. 31 and is considering the possibility of farming out a 30% interest in Est Cobalcescu to equalize its equity position across both blocks.

Interests in the 1,000 sq km Muridava Block 27 are Midia 40%, Melrose 40%, and Petromar Resources SA 20%.

Muridava, adjacent to Sterling’s Pelican block, contains multiple exploration plays, has existing 2D seismic coverage, and contains an existing hydrocarbon discovery, Olimpiyskaya, which was drilled in 2001, on which limited historical data are available (OGJ Online, Mar. 22, 2012).
