Talisman Energy Inc. said it has confirmed the presence of oil and gas-condensate at its Kurdamir-2 redrill in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

The well flowed at unstimulated rates of 7.3 MMcfd of gas and 950 b/d of oil and condensate with no indications of water and no observed decline, the company said, on an open hole drillstem test of the upper 55 m of the Oligocene reservoir. A total of 140 m of gross reservoir (88 m net) was identified through wireline logging.

Kurdamir-2 is a redrill of the Kurdamir-1 gas-condensate discovery well, 2 km away, that was drilled in 2009 but not completed. Talisman said it will continue drilling into the deeper objectives and will conduct more extensive testing, including stimulation, through midyear 2012.

Talisman is operator of the Kurdamir block with a 40% working interest. WesternZagros Resources Ltd., Calgary, has 40%, and the Kurdistan Regional Government has 20% carried interest.
