BNK Petroleum Inc., Camarillo, Calif., said it obtained initial production at the encouraging rate of more than 20 b/d of oil after it fracture stimulated the Caney shale formation in one of its vertical wells in Tishomingo field in southern Oklahoma.

The company said it is considering the drilling of a horizontal well in 2012 to further evaluate the Caney’s full potential.

BNK described the Caney, which overlies the Woodford shale, as ranging from 300 to 350 ft thick and as being present over all of the company’s acreage in Tishomingo field. Economic success in the interval could result in large oil reserve additions, the company added.
