Statoil has gulf deepwater discovery at Walker Ridge

Statoil ASA is assessing volumes and commerciality of a deepwater discovery in the Walker Ridge area of the Gulf of Mexico, said partner Ecopetrol America Inc.

Statoil ASA is assessing volumes and commerciality of a deepwater discovery in the Walker Ridge area of the Gulf of Mexico, said partner Ecopetrol America Inc.

The discovery came at the Logan-1 well on Walker Ridge 969. No further details of the discovery were available. Ecopetrol America has a 20% interest in Walker Ridge 969.

Block 969 lies 60 miles southwest of St. Malo oil field. It is in the southwest corner of the Walker Ridge planning area, adjacent to blocks in the Keathley Canyon, Sigsbee Escarpment, and Amery Terrace planning areas.

Ecopetrol America, an affiliate of Colombia’s state Ecopetrol, has an interest in 112 blocks in the gulf in partnership with Shell, Eni SPA, BP PLC, Statoil, Repsol, Anadarko Petroleum Corp., and others.
