BP Egypt and an Eni SPA affiliate have a shallow gas discovery at the Salmon exploratory well on the North El Burg offshore concession in the central Nile Delta off Egypt.

Wireline logs and pressure readings confirmed the presence of gas in two shallow Pleistocene intervals. The companies are still determining the discovery’s resource potential. The well went to 1,600 m in 87 m of water 50 km north of Damietta.

Salmon, third gas discovery on the concession, follows the Satis-1 and Satis-3 Oligocene deep gas discoveries.

BP Egypt and Eni’s International Egyptian Oil Co. each holds a 50% interest in the concession. North El Burg, in 60-100 m of water, lies between the BP-operated Ras el Barr development concession and the IEOC-operated Offshore Baltim development concession.
