Oil Search Ltd. has found a 20-m crude oil column in the Toro Sandstone reservoir with its Hedinia-10 ST2 well, which was drilled in Papua New Guinea’s southern highlands.

The column was found by preliminary log interpretation in the Upper Toro underneath the producing Hedinia oil field.

Oil Search says elevated gas readings and oil shows were also observed as the well drilled 420 m through the sandstone to a total depth of 3,850 m.

The company plans to complete the acquisition of pressure data and logs to confirm the fluid content.

Subject to those results a sidetrack will be drilled to establish the updip potential of the Hedinia forelimb.

Participants in the well are Oil Search, Merlin Petroleum, Ampolex/PNG Petroleum, Petroleum Resources Kutubu, and Merlin Pacific Oil.
