A group led by GDF Suez E&P Norway AS has spudded the Heilo exploratory well on PL 530 in the Barents Sea off Norway.

Heilo, expected to take 50 days to drill, is east of the Goliat oil discovery (OGJ Online, July 1, 2009). It is also northwest of the 7125/4-1 Nucula oil and gas discovery (OGJ Online, Mar. 2, 2007).

GDF Suez is operator with 30% interest. North Energy ASA, Rocksource ASA, and Front Exploration AS have 20% each, and Repsol Exploration Norway AS has 10%.

Rocksource, meanwhile, said its Phoenix prospect in PL 559 on the Nordland ridge also could be expected to spud in September. Phoenix lies east of Norne, Urg, Falk, and Linerle fields.
