Chevron signs up Kyushu Electric for Wheatstone

Chevron Corp. signed a 20-year sale and purchase agreement with Kyushu Electric Power Co. for the supply of as much as 700,000 tonnes/year of LNG from the Wheatstone LNG project offshore Western Australia.

Kyushu also will acquire 1.83% interest from Chevron’s equity in the Wheatstone field licences and a 1.46% interest in the Wheatstone project gas processing facilities, which are to be built at Ashburton North 12 km west of Onslow on the Western Australia coast.

When the equity participation volume is included, Kyushu will take delivery of 800,000 tpy of LNG from the project, which will produce a total of 8.9 million tpy of LNG from two processing trains. There will also be a domestic gas plant.

Kyushu Electric is also a long-term customer of the North West Shelf gas project.
