Kuwait Energy Co. and Beach Energy Ltd. reported the discovery of hydrocarbons in the GPZZ-4 and Al Ahmadi-1 wells, which were drilled in the Abu Sennan concession in Egypt’s Western Desert.

“Production testing on both wells is still ongoing to assess the volumes and commerciality of the hydrocarbon shows,” said KEC Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sara Akbar.

During initial drilling, hydrocarbon shows were found in the lower and upper Bahariya formations, and the Abu Roash “G” Member. An extensive testing program of these formations is currently under way.

The Al Ahmadi-1 well, meanwhile, also has found hydrocarbon shows within the Kharita formation, the lower Bahariya formation, the Abu Roash “G” Member, and the Abu Roash “E” Member.

Abu Sennan, operated by Kuwait Energy Egypt Ltd. with 50% interest, covers 1,600 sq km about 300 km west of Cairo. Four of the block’s numerous multipay prospects identified on a block-wide 3D seismic survey are to be drilled in Beach’s 2011 fiscal year. Dover Investments Ltd. has 28% interest in Abu Sennan (OGJ Online, Aug. 4, 2010).
