HRT O&G Exploracao e Producao de Petroleo Ltda., Rio de Janeiro, has spud its fourth exploratory well, designated 1-HRT-4-AM, in the Solimoes basin in northwestern Brazil.

Projected to 2,730 m in the Coari district of Amazonas state, the well is being drilled on the Igarape Maria contingent resource structure 2.8 km south of Urucu Southeast field.

The well is to test the crest of an anticlinal structure with a 28 sq km closed area 5.4 km northeast of the 1-IMA-1-AM gas-condensate discovery well and 6.5 km southeast of the 1-CRP-1-AM gas-condensate discovery well, 1-CRP-1-AM, both on the northeastern structural trend that defines the Urucu oil and gas province.

The wells main objectives well are eolian sandstones of the Lower Jurua formation, expected at 2,420 m. Secondary objectives are the sandstones of the Upper Jurua formation, expected at 2,340 m, and those of the Devonian sequence (Uere formation), expected at 2,515 m.

HRT O&G holds 55% participating interest in 21 exploration blocks covering 48,500 sq km in the basin on which 52 prospects have been mapped and certified and 11 discoveries were classified as contingent resources (see map, OGJ, Mar. 7, 2011, p. 63).
