HOUSTON, Feb. 8 -- Enterprise Products Partners LP, Houston, reported that a fire broke out Feb. 8 at the west storage facility at the company’s Mont Belvieu, Tex., complex about 35 miles east of Houston. One worker is presently unaccounted for at this time, the company said.
“Once the fire is extinguished, Enterprise will be able more fully to assess damage to the facility,” Enterprise said in a statement.
The company reported that the main facilities at the Mont Belvieu complex “were not damaged” and “remain operational.” These unaffected systems include “the natural gas liquids fractionators, the propylene fractionators, the butane isomerization units, the octane enhancement facility, north and east facilities, and the import-export terminals on the Houston Ship Channel,” the company said.
Enterprise said currently it does not believe the fire poses any immediate danger to the community, adding that it will provide a further update once the impact of the fire has been more fully assessed.
Late in 2010, Enterprise brought online at Mont Belvieu its fourth NGL fractionator with a nameplate capacity of 75,000 b/d (OGJ Online, Dec. 1, 2010). The addition increased Enterprise's nameplate capacity at Mont Belvieu to 305,000 b/d.
Enterprise has already announced construction of a fifth, 75,000-b/d NGL fractionation train at Mont Belvieu to be in service in early 2012, accommodating expanded Eagle Ford shale NGL production by Pioneer Natural Resources USA Inc., among others.
