HOUSTON, Jan. 27
-- Approach Resources Inc., Fort Worth, has acquired 10,900 contiguous net acres in northeastern Crockett County, Tex., from undisclosed private sellers, expanding its position to 109,000 net acres in the southern Midland basin.

The acreage is 9 miles west of Approach’s existing acreage. Its initial block is generally south of a spread acquired by El Paso Corp. at a University of Texas lease sale in September 2010 (OGJ Online, Nov. 15, 2010).

The acquisitions expand the company’s exploration interests in the Wolffork oil resource play, which targets oil in the Clearfork/Spraberry, Dean, and Wolfcamp shale formations. The acreage may also be prospective in the shallower San Andres and deeper Canyon sands, Strawn, and Ellenburger, the company said.

Approach plans to begin to delineate the Wolffork trend across the new acreage in the second half of 2011.
