HOUSTON, Jan. 5 – The second exploratory well on the D9 block in the deepwater Krishna-Godavari basin off India indicated the potential presence of a petroleum system, said participant Hardy Oil and Gas PLC.
Reliance Industries Ltd., operator of the KG-D9-B3 well on the KG-DWN-2001/1 license, drilled to 3,829 m in 2,948 m of water 47 km from the nearest well.
The new well encountered two Tertiary aged reservoir quality sand packages of 70 and 40 m gross thickness, respectively, in which gas shows ranging from 6 to 9% were recorded. Testing was carried out with the MDT tool which suggests water gradient in the sand packages, Hardy Oil said. The well was plugged and abandoned.
“The presence of thick reservoir quality sands and the potential presence of a petroleum system are encouraging,” Hardy Oil said. It said the partners will incorporate well data to update the geological model on the 11,604 sq km license.
