HOUSTON, Dec. 10
-- During November, European LNG import volumes set a new record high, according to Waterborne, Europe, which monitors and analyzes LNG markets.

Steve Johnson, president of the Houston-based service, said Europe imported 302 bcf for the month, about 52 bcf more than the previous record volumes imported just 2 months earlier.

Johnson attributed the surge to cold weather and to the failure of US terminals to import as much LNG as was expected, due to high production of shale gas. “Europe is simply snapping up a lot of this uncommitted gas,” said Johnson.

UK imports were the largest contributor to Europe’s record imports, bringing in 73 bcf. “This level also set a record for the largest single import month ever” for the UK, Johnson said.
