HOUSTON, Dec. 7 -- Romania’s state Petrom has inaugurated facilities designed to ensure continuity of natural gas supply in the southern part of the country.
The €135 million Hurezani delivery point accepted its first gas last May and now handles 4.5 million cu m/day.
The compression project assures stable gas deliveries from mature fields with low reservoir pressure in southwestern Romania to customers in the country’s southeast. The compressor station at Bulbuceni can boost pressure as high as 40 bars, avoiding interruptions caused by the higher pressure in the national transportation network.
The station receives gas from five nearby fields. It made the last step to 4.5 million cu m/day with addition of gas from the Turburea deethanizing plant.
The overall project included the compressor station, 11.5 km of pipeline, and a metering station at the Hurezani delivery point. No delivery interruptions have occurred since last May, Petrom said.
Petrom noted that Romania still supplies 75% of domestic gas demand after more than 100 years of production. The company also is building an 860-Mw gas-fired power plant at Brazi, Romania.
