HOUSTON, Dec. 8
– Provincial firm Nalcor Energy Oil & Gas said the second of three wells it plans to drill at Parsons Pond in western Newfoundland encountered natural gas while drilling and that it has begun testing the first well.

Nalcor et al. Finnegan went to a TD of 3,130 m and is suspended while the company reviews data and determines the next steps including a potential test plan.

Tests are to start shortly at Seamus, suspended last May. A test rig is on site. Testing will determine the extent of flow characteristics and overall volume of gas in place.

Nalcor’s main operational objective of this drilling program was to gain information
from this well that will allow further insight and assessment of the area’s petroleum
potential. Drilling of Nalcor et al. Darcy is to start in early 2011.
