HOUSTON, Dec. 30
-- BP Trinidad & Tobago LLC (BPTT) signed a 2-year contract with an additional 1-year option with Seadrill Ltd. for its newbuild semisubmersible-tender West Jaya to work off Trinidad and Tobago starting in 2011, Seadrill said.

Contract value for the firm period is $140 million, including a mobilization fee for the transit. In addition, BPTT agreed to compensate Seadrill for minor equipment upgrades related to the assignment.

West Jaya is under construction at Keppel Shipyard in Singapore with delivery scheduled for Mar. 31. The semi, capable of drilling in 6,500 ft of water, will be moved to Trinidad and Tobago where BPTT expects it to start working in early July.

Seadrill said the BPTT contract expands Seadrill’s “geographical footprint of our tender rig operations” and also marks the first tender-rig contract with BPTT.
