HOUSTON, Nov. 24 -- Abu Dhabi National Energy Co. PJSC (TAQA) restarted oil production from Rijn field off the Netherlands. The field lies on Block P15, 40 km northwest of Rotterdam, in 82 ft of water. It had been shut in for 12 years.
TAQA acquired its interest in the field in 2007 from BP PLC and worked over five oil wells and five water injection wells as well as upgraded its operated P15-C offshore facility (OGJ Online, Nov. 28, 2006).
The company now reinjects all produced water and produces the wells with newly installed electrical submersible pumps.
Current oil production is about 3,500 b/d.
The wells produce to the TAQA-operated P15-ACD offshore production and processing facilities. A pipeline transports the produced oil to Rotterdam.
Amoco Netherlands BV discovered Rijn in April 1982 with well P15-3, which tested oil from two Lower Cretaceous reservoirs at a combined rate of 2,500 b/d. The main reservoir is the Vlieland sandstone which lies at a shallow depth of about 2,000 m, according to Oranje Nassau Energie BV, one of the partners in the field.
The field had initially three platforms: a process and accommodation unit, and two wellhead platforms. One platform, the Rijn-B wellhead platform, was abandoned and removed.
Production from Rijn started in December 1985 and ceased in 1998.
Oranje Nassau indicates that the field had produced 25 million bbl of oil prior to being shut in.
TAQA operates the field and holds a 38.27% interest. Its partners are Dyas BV 45.69%, Oranje Nassau Energie BV 14.19%, and Wintershall Noordzee BV 1.84%.
