HOUSTON, Nov. 15
– Melrose Resources PLC started production from Kavarna and Kaliakra fields in the Black Sea off Bulgaria in early November 2010.

Production is expected to build to 45 MMcfd of gas from combined reserves of 74 bcf. The fields, in the Galata exploration concession, are developed with single subsea wells tied back to the Galata field production platform that connects to the company’s onshore gas plant.

Melrose Resources plans to similarly develop the East Kavarna discovery’s 12 bcf that has the potential to extend the combined field production plateau period to around 3 years. Bulgargaz, the state utility, will buy most of the gas. The rest will go to a local industrial user.
