HOUSTON, July 29
-- Enbridge shut down a leaking pipeline near Marshall, Mich., after oil spilled into a creek and entered the Kalamazoo River. Initial estimates are that 19,500 bbl might have been released.

The leak was reported on the 6B pipeline on Enbridge’s Lakehead system near a pump station. The leak’s cause is being investigated. Line 6B is a 30-in., 190,000 b/d line transporting light synthetics, heavy, and medium crude from Griffith, Ind., to Sarnia, Ont.

The pipeline is shut down and isolation valves closed, stopping the source of the oil.

“Enbridge takes every incident very seriously and we’re treating this situation as a top priority,” the company said. The company said that no one was reported injured. “We are committed to thoroughly cleaning up the site as quickly as possible. The safety of people and the protection of the environment are our highest priorities during the clean up.”
