MELBOURNE, May 3 – The Australian government has postponed the country’s go-it-alone emissions trading scheme until at least 2013, said Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

Rudd said the Federal Government Opposition party refused to endorse the scheme. He also cited the slow pace of international climate change action as a reason for Australia waiting to see what other countries do.

Nevertheless, the Australian government’s greenhouse gas emission reduction targets stay in place, Rudd said.
