HOUSTON, Dec. 15
– Talisman Energy Inc., Calgary, plans a hydraulic fracs in early 2010 at its first Ordovician Utica shale horizontal well in Quebec’s St. Lawrence Lowlands.

Talisman Energy as operator this week spudded the horizontal Gentilly-2HZ well targeting Middle Utica. The well is adjacent to the vertical Gentilly-1 well that tested at a rate of more than 800 Mcfd of gas from Middle Utica, said participant Questerre Energy Corp. Calgary.

Talisman Energy drilled and cased its first horizontal well in the play, St. Edouard-1H, to 3,181 m measured depth in a highly overpressured area, Questerre Energy said. That included a 1,000-m lateral. The Middle Utica frac job is set for early January 2010, and subject to weather and equipment, preliminary test results are expected in the first quarter.
