LOS ANGELES, Dec. 28 -- Brazil’s OGX Petroleo e Gas Participacoes SA (OGX) identified an oil column of more than 180 m and net pay of 50 m in carbonate reservoirs of the Aptian and Barremian sections of the 1-OGX-3-RJS well on Block BM-C-41 in shallow waters of the Campos basin.
OGX, with 100% working interest in the block, said the well is in its final drilling stage to an estimated total depth of 4,000 m.
This is the second discovery of hydrocarbons in well OGX-3, according to the firm. The first was in carbonate reservoirs of the Albian section.
A formation test is planned soon to verify characteristics of carbonate reservoirs in dynamic conditions.
The OGX-3 well lies on Block BM-C-41, 83 km from Rio de Janeiro state, in 130 m of water.
Pride International’s Sea Explorer rig began drilling the well Nov. 16 and will continue to be employed through the end of the formation test.
OGX announced the start of drilling in prospects Kilawea and Krakatoa through 1-OGX-4-RJS on Block BM-C-42 and 1-OGX-5-RJS on Block BM-C-43.
“These wells are being drilled by the rigs Ocean Quest and Ocean Ambassador (respectively), and we estimate that it will take 60 days for each to be concluded,” OGX said.
