HOUSTON, Dec. 9
– Addax Petroleum Corp., Calgary, has spud the Oki East exploratory well in Block 4 of the Nigeria-Sao Tome & Principe Joint Development Zone in the Gulf of Guinea.

Drilling is estimated to take 5 weeks, said 19.5% participant ERHC Energy Inc., Houston.

This is the third well in Block 4 and the fifth well drilled in JDZ blocks in which ERHC has interests since the start of a comprehensive exploratory drilling campaign in August 2009 (see map, OGJ, Sept. 8, 2003, p. 38). The Transocean Deepwater Pathfinder drillship is handling the Oki East well.

Meanwhile, Addax Petroleum finished drilling the Malanza-1X well in Block 4. A comprehensive analysis that incorporates the drilling results into relevant geologic and fluid models will now be carried out. Addax Petroleum earlier drilled the Kina well in Block 4.

The comprehensive exploratory drilling campaign also included the Lemba-1X well in Block 3 and the Bomu-1 well in Block 2.
