HOUSTON, Dec. 17
– Melrose Resources PLC, Edinburgh, plans to spud an exploratory well by the end of 2010 in the remote Mesaha concession in the southwest corner of Egypt.

The company let a contract for the shooting of 2,000 line-km of 2D seismic on the block starting in January 2010.

The survey is positioned using results of a recent 1,570-km ground gravity survey that were highly encouraging and confirmed the presence of a major unexplored sedimentary basin with sufficient depth to be potentially hydrocarbon generative, the company said.

A rig is set to move to Mesaha late in the year after drilling the South Damas and Tall Rak gas prospects on the South East Mansoura concession in Egypt’s Nile Delta onshore.
