Chubu signs Gorgon LNG purchase deal

Chevron Australia and Chubu Electric Power Co. of Japan have signed a long-term agreement for sale to Chubu of 1.44 million tonnes/year of LNG from the 15 million tonne/year Gorgon liquefaction plant under construction on Barrow Island off Western Australia (OGJ Online, Nov. 13, 2009).

MELBOURNE, Dec. 18 -- Chevron Australia and Chubu Electric Power Co. of Japan have signed a long-term agreement for sale to Chubu of 1.44 million tonnes/year of LNG from the 15 million tonne/year Gorgon liquefaction plant under construction on Barrow Island off Western Australia (OGJ Online, Nov. 13, 2009).

The agreement is to run for 25 years.

Chubu is also buying a 0.417% share from Chevron’s stake in the project.

The agreement follows the recent signing of binding long-term sales with Osaka Gas, Tokyo Gas, and GS-Caltex for delivery of a total of 3 million tonnes/year of LNG from Gorgon. In addition there has been a heads of agreement signed with Korea Gas Corporation for 1.5 million tonnes/year.
