HOUSTON, Nov. 9
– A subsidiary of Caithness Petroleum Ltd., private UK independent, has been awarded a 1-year reconnaissance license named Taounate in Morocco.

Cabre Maroc Ltd.’s 4,660-sq-km Taounate area is just northeast of its Fes exploration permit and is believed to hold an extension of the geological plays in the Fes block. Interests are Cabre Maroc 75% and Morocco’s ONHYM 25%.

The western part of the two blocks is in the Rharb basin, and the eastern part is in an overthrust area with potential for large oil and gas discoveries. Cabre Maroc has arranged to acquire an airborne gravity gradiometry survey to locate structures on the new license.

Cabre Maroc spudded the first deep well on Fes in October 2008, which is to be tested by the end of 2009.
