Reliance Industries Ltd. has spud the KGV-D3-R1 exploration well, third well on the D3 block in the Krishna-Godavari basin off eastern India.

HOUSTON, Nov. 3
– Reliance Industries Ltd. has spud the KGV-D3-R1 exploration well, third well on the D3 block in the Krishna-Godavari basin off eastern India.

The Transocean Deepwater Expedition semisubmersible is to drill it to 4,710 m in 1,964 m of water to explore Miocene sands. Three more wells are to be drilled on the block by the end of 2010.

The license covers 3,288 sq km and provides for the drilling of at least six exploratory wells in the first exploration phase. The first two wells were gas discoveries and are being appraised.

Reliance Industries has 90% interest in the block, and Hardy Oil & Gas PLC has 10%.
