HOUSTON, Nov. 4
– Emerald Energy PLC, a subsidiary of Sinochem Resourcse UK Ltd., has completed the Mirto-1 exploration well on the 9-million-acre Maranta block in Colombia’s Putumayo basin.

Villeta U sand at 7,043 ft is on long-term production test averaging 450 b/d of 31.5° gravity oil, 50% basic sediment and water, on an electric submersible pump. Water handling capacity restricts the rate. Water remediation action is planned, said 20% participant La Cortez Energy Inc., Bogota.

Earlier, the well recorded oil and gas shows in the four target reservoirs. Villeta U flow-tested 731 b/d of 32.5° gravity oil, and Villeta N sand flow-tested 247 b/d of 15° gravity oil in 48 hr with 64% water cut. TD is 11,578 ft.

Emerald plans to shoot 30 sq km of 3D seismic to determine the Maranta block development program. Maranta is near the recent 20-million-bbl Costayaco field discovered by Gran Tierra Energy Inc.
