HOUSTON, Nov. 12
-- Whiting Oil & Gas Corp., Denver, let a contract to MicroSeismic Inc., Houston, for a buried array microseismic monitoring program in Sanish oil and gas field in the North Dakota portion of the Williston basin.

The program targets the Bakken and Three Forks formations. MSI will install the buried array across 152 sq miles in Sanish field to provide microseismic monitoring, mapping, and analysis of hydraulic fracturing for Whiting’s field development program.

The system applies MSI’s patented PSET processing and analysis to the seismic data collected by the buried array as the reservoir undergoes fracture stimulation. MSI said the buried array enables operators to monitor a larger percentage of wells treated for a more complete picture of reservoir performance.

This is MSI’s first buried array outside the Haynesville shale play in Louisiana, said Peter Duncan, founder and chief executive officer of MSI.

Duncan said the contract “demonstrates the broad market acceptance that this unique service offering is gaining,” adding, “We now have more than 300 sq miles of permanent, buried arrays that are either installed or currently being implemented, which will be used to monitor several hundred wells. We also have additional buried arrays planned for other major shale plays.”
