HOUSTON, Oct. 22 -- Sempra Energy dedicated its 1.5 bcfd Cameron LNG receipt terminal in Hackberry, La., Oct. 21. The terminal began commercial operations July 30.
Cameron LNG has a 20-year supply contract with Eni SPA for 40% of the terminal’s capacity and a flexible agreement with RasGas to purchase as many as 50 LNG cargoes through Dec. 31, 2010. Natural gas processed at Cameron LNG will be used in the the Gulf Coast, East Coast, and southeastern US.
Situated on a 260-acre site along the Calcasieu Channel, Cameron LNG can be expanded to process 2.65 bcfd. A 36-mile pipeline connects the terminal to existing interstate pipelines. Cameron LNG features three 160,000 cu m full-containment storage tanks. Each tank stands 175 ft tall, has a diameter of 260 ft, and features a 9% nickel plate inner tank, and a reinforced concrete outer tank with a carbon steel liner. The concrete measures 3 ft thick at the base of each tank. Maximum boil-off rate is 0.05 vol %/day.
Cameron LNG has two jetties and can accept vessels at 75,000-250,000 cu m capacity and 710-1,056 ft overall length. It can unload at a rate of 12,000 cu m/hr and via 3 liquid arms, 1 vapor arm, 8 high-pressure send-out pumps, and 10 submerged combustion vaporizers.
