HOUSTON, Oct. 23
– Netherlands awarded Northern Petroleum Nederland BV the 97-sq-km Engelen exploration license in the West Netherlands basin.

The 4-year license covers the Kerkwijk South gas prospect, mapped from seismic and on trend with the 1988 Kerkwijk gas discovery.

The company also holds the Andel III, Papekop, Utrecht, and Waalwijk licenses in the area. Engelen is adjacent to Utrecht, where two undeveloped discoveries with combined gas in place of a mean 242 bcf and exploration prospects will be evaluated in tandem with Engelen.

On future conversion to a production license, NPN’s 100% interest in Engelen is subject to the election by Energie Beheer Nederland BV to acquire a 40% paying participating interest.
