WASHINGTON, DC, Oct. 22 -- The US Environmental Protection Agency fined Chaparral Energy LLC and Hunt Oil Co. for separate Clean Water Act violations, the federal regulator’s Dallas office said on Oct. 21.
EPA said Chaparral, an Oklahoma City-based independent, agreed to pay $10,900 to settle charges stemming from a 6,500-gal oil spill into Hay Creek, an Arkansas River tributary, and adjoining shorelines in Osage County, Okla, on Mar. 29.
EPA said it also fined Dallas-based Hunt Oil $7,150 for violating federal spill control regulations at a Texas oil production site.
It said a federal inspection on Mar. 31 of Hunt Oil’s Central Tank Battery No. 18 in Henderson County, Tex., revealed failures to provide secondary containment for separation equipment in accordance with written procedures developed for the facility.
Hunt Oil also failed to provide documentation that a spill prevention, control, and countermeasure plan required for onshore oil production and storage operations under the CWA had been approved for the site, it added.
